about the author
Pepper Winters

pepper-wintersPepper Winters wears many roles. Some of them include writer, reader, sometimes wife. She loves dark, taboo stories that twist with your head. The more tortured the hero, the better, and she constantly thinks up ways to break and fix her characters. Oh, and sex… her books have sex.

She loves to travel and has an amazing, fabulous hubby who puts up with her love affair with her book boyfriends.

my review

5 Stars

Sweet Jesus.  It felt like a gift to finally have the next installment in the Dollars series.   When Pennies finished, I wanted to cry.  I wanted to plead with the author to give me more.  I cannot get enough of the two characters, Elder and Pim.  I am completely bewitched by this less than conventional love story.

Elder and Pim might share a dark or twisted relationship but labeling it as only that is short changing the incredible storyline that the author has developed.  These two have a complicated love story but it is true and almost pure at it’s core.

“Elder Prest was the most dangerous man I’d ever known. Not because he could kill me whenever he chose, but because he had the power to steal so much more than just my life. He could steal my heart.”

So I think, that if the first book was about surviving hell than Dollars was about enduring the aftershocks of surviving.  It was gut wrenchingly painful to read.  Because even with deeper understanding of the pain that fills their damaged souls, they struggled to find sanctuary in one another’s lives.  Solace seems just out of their grasp.

With each new day, they discover that there is no easy road to move forward on and they battle through several heart breaking set backs. Slowly though, they find their way and with each moment of success they achieved, I celebrated.  I swooned.  I felt absolute joy when they simply allowed themselves to be vulnerable and to trust one another.  It was beautiful to experience and it made me love this couple all that much more.

“The kiss had no expectations, and that was what made it so heart-warming. Somehow, with the classical notes still hanging in the air, his kiss deleted one tiny memory of Alrik. I had a thousand and one more to go, but he’d taken a sliver and made it…better? Right? Different?”

I cannot gush enough about this book and I loved this chapter in Elder and Pim’s adventure.  I devoured the pages every time Elder erased another Alrik memory and every time Pim found herself a step closer to being Tasmin again.  And in all honesty, I have no clue where these two will end up but I look forward to taking the journey with them.

Bottom line.  The Dollars series is a top recommendation from me.  Drop whatever you’re doing and start it now.
