The New York Times bestselling hockey series featuring the Carolina Cold Fury continues as the team’s most notorious party animal gets blindsided by the one that got away.
Off the ice, elite defenseman Hawke Therrien enjoys his fair share of booze and good times. And why shouldn’t he? He’s worked his way up from the minor leagues and made himself a star. The only thing Hawke misses from that life is the pierced, tattooed free spirit who broke his heart without so much as an explanation. She’s almost unrecognizable when she walks back into his life seven years later—except for the look in her eyes that feels like a punch to the gut.
Vale Campbell isn’t the same girl she was at twenty. As crazy as she was about Hawke, her reckless behavior and out-of-control drinking were starting to scare her. She had to clean up her act, and that would never happen with Hawke around. Cutting him loose was the hardest thing Vale ever had to do—until now. Because she’s still crazy about Hawke. And if he could ever learn to forgive her, they just might have a future together.

New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett is a snarky Southern woman and reformed trial lawyer who decided to finally start putting on paper all of the stories that were floating in her head. Her husband works for a Fortune 100 company that lets him fly all over the world while she stays at home with their daughter and three big, furry dogs who hog the bed.
Bennett would like to report that she doesn’t have many weaknesses but can be bribed with a nominal amount of milk chocolate.
I’ve gotten quite attached to the members of this Carolina team and each time a new book releases it’s like the first day of hockey season for me. I’m giddy and beyond thrilled to see what hot drama will happen on and off the ice. I seriously love this series!
So Hawke hitting my Kindle was like someone yelling game on – I could not wait to get started. And I found Sawyer Bennett’s newest addition to both the series and the team is hella hot and entertaining.
On Hawke Therrien’s first day with the team, the one that got away is suddenly right there in front of Hawke and he is given a second chance with Vale Campbell. It’s awkward and exciting all at once. The sexual tension leaps of the page – I couldn’t wait for them give in their own curiosity and interact.
Before Hawke’s career really took off, these two were young and desperately in love with one another. They were also the life of the party and kind of a hot mess. Out of control. But it didn’t matter because Hawke and Vale had each other… that was until suddenly didn’t. Neither Hawke nor you as the reader have any idea as to why they’re no longer together but you know it’s a huge hurdle they will need to overcome and you’re anticipating the moment when the truths are revealed.
Their romantic journey toward happily ever after was filled with up and downs but you consistently felt the love between them. It left me completely smitten with Hawke and Vale. Hawke turned out to be so much more than a partying manwhore and I was touched by his softer side. Plus I really liked Vale – she’s a reformed party girl and her dedication to take care of her father and herself truly had me respecting her.
All the details of this book worked well together and Hawke and Vale’s story was awesome. The connection between Hawke and Vale was undeniable – I was practically cheering when they gave into their feelings for one another and I devoured this book in one afternoon. Each player on the Cold Fury Hockey team has been a little more fun to read about than the last and Hawke’s story continued that tradition. Definitely grab your copy of Hawke today.
