book blurb

Perfect for fans of Alice Clayton and Emma Chase, Lauren Layne’s Oxford series heats up in this story of forbidden desire as a brooding jock hoping for a comeback falls for a woman who’s strictly off-limits.

A year ago, Jackson Burke was married to the love of his life and playing quarterback for the Texas Redhawks. Now he’s retired, courtesy of the car accident that ruined his career—and single, after a nasty scandal torpedoed his marriage. Just as he’s starting to get used to his new life as a health and fitness columnist for Oxford magazine, his unpredictable ex shows up on his doorstep in Manhattan. Jackson should be thrilled. But he can’t stop thinking about the one person who’s always been there for him, the one girl he could never have: her younger sister.

Mollie Carrington can’t say no to Madison. After all, her older sister practically raised her. So when Madison begs for help in winning her ex-husband back, Mollie’s just glad she got over her own crush on Jackson ages ago—or so she thought. Because as Mollie reconnects with Jackson, she quickly forgets all her reasons to stay loyal to her sister. Tempted by Jackson’s mellow drawl and cowboy good looks, Mollie is sick and tired of coming in second place. But she can’t win if she doesn’t play the game.

my review

5 Stars

Some books and characters just make you happy. You read their stories and you feel giddy. You get excited as the new couple’s love develops. Pissed at any trouble they encounter and aroused by their passion.  Jackson and Mollie are absolutely one of these couples. I loved them and their romance, I Wish You Were Mine.

This unfolding love story is all kinds of taboo. However, from the first moments together, you want Jackson and Mollie to be a couple regardless of anything that stands in their way.  They’re funny and smart. Quick witted. Easily likable. They fit together so well that it irritates you to think of them with anyone else.

And they have one huge ass bitch of a road block keeping them from a happily ever after together.

I felt bad that they were in such an awkward and almost forbidden situation but any time they were in the same room together, they made my heart beat just a little bit faster. I found myself addicted to this couple’s sweet and sexy moments.  I was silently cheering every time they took a step closer toward a commitment to one another.

Honestly, I devoured their book (I read it in one sitting).  Jackson and Mollie complimented the rest of the Stiletto and Oxford crew and I thought they were a nice addition to this set of characters.  I thought their story was entertaining and I definitely recommend it.

Lauren Layne is a must read author and her books are top recommendations from me.
