The Road to Paradise is never easy

After a year on the coast, Lexie Atkinson can’t settle back into country life. She’s missing the glitzy, gritty nightlife of the big city and the group of misfit friends she’d loved to hate. She knows to move forward she has to go back – back to face the guy who stole her heart.

But when Lexie arrives in Paradise City to work out if her future includes bad-boy surfer, Luke Ballantine, he is nowhere to be found.

With no home, no money and no Luke, Lexie gets a job slinging drinks at the wild Wipe Out Bar. Soon her heartache is eased when broody bar owner, Dean Saville, starts taking an interest and stirs more than just her drinks. But nothing is ever as it seems in Paradise City and when Luke barrels back into town, Lexie has a choice to make. But who will end up with the broken heart: Luke, Dean … or Lexie?

my review

5 Stars

C.J. Duggan’s series turned out to be completely different than I originally anticipated. I’m not really a fan of love triangles, so I was pleasantly surprised that Lexie’s love life made me smile.  Her story exceeded all of my expectations – I loved my time in Paradise.

Quick recap. Lexie left her family farm to spend her senior year at a regular high school after being home schooled. She has a grand imagine of what her life will be like in Paradise. It will be magical. The beach, hot boys and of course an epic romance – she had it all worked out in her mind how it was going to be. Except nothing turned out the way she thought – but that is what makes it awesome reading.  Her life is entertaining as hell.

Paradise Road picks up right where the first book concluded. Lexi is determined to return to Paradise and fix everything that is wrong with her life.  However, she is delivered several shocking blows when she returns after her holiday break – basically, she is homeless, broke and suffering from a broken heart. So it’s up to her to figure out how to make the situation work so that she can stay and win back Luke.

I thought the main character, Lexie was freaking spunky and hilarious. I was completely charmed with all that she brought to this series.  Just when you think she’s down for the count, she surprises you and comes back even stronger.  Her love life is complicated but the way it unfolds feels realistic and I really liked the way it all turned out. I don’t want to give away any spoilers – just know that she has incredible sexual chemistry with both Luke and Dean.  Holy hotness!!

C.J. Duggan was a new to me author and I will absolutely look for more books written by her.  The Paradise books were well written and kept my attention – I devoured them both in one day.  I definitely recommend you find out how Lexie’s romance adventure ends – it’s a fun and sexy read!
