Whiskey Creek Series (Book 9)
Release Date: October 27, 2015
One Christmas can change your life…
Kyle Houseman believes he’ll never find anyone he could love as much as Olivia Arnold, who’s now married to his stepbrother. Not only did he lose her, he’s been through one divorce and has no desire to go through another. He’s determined to be extra careful about the next woman he gets involved with—which is why he fights his attraction to the beautiful stranger who rents his farmhouse for the Christmas holiday.
Lourdes Bennett is a country music artist. She’s only planning to stay in Whiskey Creek long enough to write the songs for her next album—the album that’s going to put her back on top. Her dreams don’t include settling in a town even smaller than the one she escaped. But as she comes to know Kyle, she begins to wonder if she’d be making a terrible mistake to leave him behind…
It was a shocking experience that jump-started Brenda Novak’s career as a bestselling author–she caught her day-care provider drugging her children with cough syrup to get them to sleep all day. That was when Brenda decided she needed to quit her job as a loan officer and help make a living from home.
“When I first got the idea to become a novelist, it took me five years to teach myself the craft and finish my first book,” Brenda says. But she sold that book, and the rest is history. Her novels have made the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists and won many awards, including four Rita nominations, the Book Buyer’s Best, the Book Seller’s Best and the National Reader’s Choice Award.
Brenda and her husband, Ted, live in Sacramento and are proud parents of five children–three girls and two boys. When she’s not spending time with her family or writing, Brenda is usually raising funds for diabetes research (her youngest son has this disease). So far, Brenda has raised $2.4 million. The romance market is filling up with all kinds of tawdry tales of love – books that basically just bounce from one moment in the bedroom to the next. So it is incredible to be enchanted and stimulated by a couple because of their relationship and connection. This is why, I was so excited to get my hands on the latest addition to the Whiskey Creek series, A Winter Wedding. I’ve been waiting for this story for quite a few books now – I knew it would be a fun book to read because Kyle was finally (FINALLY!!) getting his opportunity to find his happily ever after.
Kyle’s past is plagued with poor judgment calls and most of them revolve unfortunately around his ex-girlfriend’s sister, Noelle. (A character who I seriously, seriously dislike. I’d call her a name but that seems unprofessional) No matter how much goodwill he puts into his karma bank, she still haunts – no wait – tortures him with her drama and chaos. Plus he just cannot seem to get over his ex-girlfriend. Even though it’s been FIVE years and she’s married to his brother.
Kyle desperately needs a good women in his life and in his bed. But he has just accepted his fate – that Noelle’s not going away and that no one is ever going to catch his attention like Olivia. So he’s not even looking for love.
That is until Lourdes enters his life. She was supposed to just be a temporary tenant but her life ends up completely entwined with Kyle’s (because her life is a hot mess, too). They quickly become friends and confidants who have a strong undercurrent of lust for one another. Everything else about their lives is falling apart except for the time they spend together.
I love the Whiskey Creek series and it just gets better with each new book. I couldn’t put Kyle and Lourdes’s romance down – their drama and chaos was awesome. I loved every single moment between them. They were sweet and funny. Smart. Their sexual chemistry is off the charts. It was everything I could ever want from a book and it made reading A Winter Wedding an absolute pleasure.
The best part about these books is that they can be read as a standalone or devoured as part of a beloved series. The story holds up and entertains either way which speaks to the talent of the author, Brenda Novak. That is why the Whiskey Creek series is a must read recommendation from me. Start reading them today!
