book blurb

Emma Chase, whose super-sexy and smartly funny Tangled series made her a bestselling sensation, returns with the second installment of the Legal Briefs series—where high-powered attorneys compete for the upper hand in the courtroom . . . and in the bedroom.

When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.

Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.

Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I’m going to Mommy and Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal’s office.

Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.

And that—that, I know how to do.

about the author

Emma Chase

By day, Emma Chase is a devoted wife and mother of two who resides in a small, rural town in New Jersey. By night she is a keyboard crusader, toiling away the hours to bring her colorful characters and their endless antics to life. She has a long standing love/hate relationship with caffeine.

Emma is an avid reader. Before her children were born she was known to consume whole books in a single day. Writing has also always been a passion and with the 2013 release of her debut romantic comedy, Tangled, the ability to now call herself an author is nothing less than a dream come true.

my review

6 Stars

I experienced book nirvana as I read Emma Chase’s Sustained. It was funny and sweet. The romance captured my heart and I felt all melty – my entire self tingled with excitement over Jake and Chelsea falling in love. It was simply awesome.

Chelsea’s brother and his wife died. Suddenly. Horribly. Leaving her responsible for their six children. It was a massive undertaking to be in charge of so many when she’s only 26 but they’re all each other has left.  They’re doing the best they can but its a bumpy transition period. Unfortunately, they end up needing legal assistance more than once.

Enter Jake.  Ahhh, I freaking loved Jake. He is Prince Charming and Paul Rudd all rolled into one amazingly delicious man.  He’s smart and funny.  Loyal.  Charming. Once a massive playboy – he’s trying to reform his ways but not necessarily because he wants a wife and kids more so he just doesn’t want to catch another STD.

Their romance is slow to start – there was an instant connection but there was seriously just too much going on in Chelsea’s life for her to act or notice.  Yet for whatever reason, Jake cannot walk away from her or the kids.  His actions and dependability made me swoon.  Jake became everything he never thought he wanted to be because it was what Chelsea needed.

If that doesn’t make him the ultimate book boyfriend, I don’t know what does.

Sustained is part of the Legal Briefs series but it could easily be read alone.  It was one of my favorite romances from this summer and I will definitely check out the other books in this series. I loved the relationship between Jake and Chelsea as well as the one with the kids.  Their mischief and hijinks left me smiling and laughing out loud.  The sweet and tender moments made me fall in love too.

All wrapped together, this love story is incredible.  Definitely purchase this book and enjoy it today.
