He slips his hands beneath my dress as he continues to kiss me and skims his fingers along my thighs. I wrap my arms around his neck and hold him close, never wanting to let him go. He’s so strong, his body so hard and firm and muscular. I reach between us to finish unbuttoning his shirt, my fingers making quick work of the buttons until it falls open and I can touch his hot, smooth skin. I trace my fingers over his flat stomach, letting them drift down to the waistband of his pants.
I’m not feeling bold enough just yet to undo those pants though. I don’t want to rush this. He runs his fingers up and down along the sides of my outer thighs and a shiver steals through me. His hands curve around, touching my ass and they grow still. I’m guessing he’s figured out I don’t have any underwear on. I break the kiss to stare up at him. His eyes have a dark gleam to them and his smile is nothing short of gigantic.
“You’re a bad, naughty girl, Luce.”
“I am? Why?” I ask innocently, even batting my eyelashes at him for good measure.
“You know why.” He shoves the skirt of my dress up to my hips, exposing me completely and he sucks in a harsh breath.
“Look at you,” he says reverently, his gaze locked on the spot between my thighs. The perv. But hey, at least he’s my perv.
For tonight. A tiny part of me wishes I could keep him for all my nights.

New York Times, USA Today and international bestselling author Monica Murphy is a native Californian who lives in the foothills below Yosemite with her husband and three children. She’s a workaholic who loves her job. When she’s not busy writing, she also loves to read and travel with her family. She writes new adult and contemporary romance and is published with Bantam and Avon. She also writes romance as USA Today bestselling author Karen Erickson.
The premise of this series is incredibly fun. Three wealthy, attractive playboys who are all best friends are going to have their feet knocked right out from beneath them by a little thing called love. The first book was awesome (I loved Shep!!) so I was desperately waiting for In the Dark – Gabe and Lucy’s story. I was slightly worried that I would not like it as much as I did Fair Game. But I was wrong. I LOVED Gabe. He constantly surprised me and his romance with Lucy made me smile.
Every summer, Gabe is required to spend time with his family. He usually endures the time drinking and sleeping his way through the local female population – taking nothing seriously because his life is already planned for him. He will work in the family business. He will marry the appropriate woman and not only will she be ‘perfect’ but she will also bring some sort of beneficial social or business connection for the Walker family. The idea of it all makes he miserable.
So when Gabe starts spying on the hottie who lives in the house beside their vacation home, he just thinks it will be another fling. He has no clue that his heart has found his mate and there will be no other choice but to surrender to it.
Lucy is the girl next door and she is nothing like Gabe assumed she is. Funny and kind – you instantly like her. Plus she doesn’t fall over herself to get Gabe’s attention even though her heart pounds in her chest whenever he is near. As their romance blooms, you’re quickly enchanted by the couple. You are quickly caught up in their sexual chemistry and passion. It is intense and exciting.
But both Gabe and Lucy have secrets hanging over their heads. You are anticipating the moment that their truths are revealed – that Gabe can only marry someone his family deems worthy and that Lucy’s life is nothing like the image he has painted in his head. Reality finds them both when they return to university in the fall. When it all falls apart, you’re holding your breath. Hopeful that they can work it all out and find their happily ever after together.
Monica Murphy’s In the Dark captured the feeling of being young and how it felt to have a summer romance that was suddenly so much more. It was spectacular. I highly suggest you read it as well as the other books in this series.
