book blurb

Growing up in New York, Michael St. Claire never expected to spend his twenties wearing cowboy boots. But that was before he learned about his real father, a total stranger with a family in Cedar Grove, Texas. Once in the Lone Star State, Michael meets Kristin Bellamy, who is exquisitely refined and everything Michael always thought he wanted in a woman. The only problem is that Kristin is dating Michael’s new half brother, Devon.

Kristin’s mouthy, curvy sister Chloe has always been in love with Devon Patterson. So when Michael offers to help Chloe break up Devon and Kristin, Chloe agrees to a deal that seems too good to be true. Before long, Chloe finally gets her man, only to make a startling discovery: She no longer wants the guy she had to fight for—she wants the one who stood by her side.

After all he and Chloe have been through, Michael swears he’s damaged goods. Can Chloe convince him that love is worth the risk?

my review

5 Stars

I love Lauren Layne and her Redemption Series. Her characters all think they know exactly what they want from life and with love. Except they are always head over heals in love with the wrong person.  So it’s a delightful adventure when they have no other option but to move past all that they know; forced to discover themselves and to accept that they need someone new to love.  Crushed is Michael’s story and it is a sassy book filled with romantic hijinks and trickery.  It is fabulous.

I’m not sure how anyone could’ve read the previous book, Broken and not felt heartbroken right along with Michael. His world is thrown into utter chaos and he is lost.  As a result, Michael in drowning himself into all of the available females in Texas so he can attempt to forget the one he cannot have.

After meeting Kristen and her boyfriend, Devon, his half-brother, Michael agrees to help Chloe get the boy she’s long desired. Not out of the goodness of his heart but because it helps him with his end goal. He wants to know about the man who fathered him but has been completely unknown for his entire life.  Only nothing goes as planned and they end up helping one another in ways they never truly knew they need support.

I absolutely adored reading about Michael’s life. His realization that he wanted someone who was the complete opposite of everything he thought he desired left me devouring chapter after chapter. The pages filled with Chloe’s quick-witted humor that made him smile and laugh – I LOVED them. My heart melted when Michael finds that his life is richer and fuller after the brief moments he interacts with Chloe versus the vapid and shallow time spent with her sister, Kristen.  It is awesome.

This book made me smile – Michael and Chloe finding people who truly see and appreciate them made me happy.  Be prepared for this duo to steal your heart.
