book blurb

Erin McIntyre is a survivor. Four years ago she bundled up her six year old daughter and set sail into uncharted waters with nothing more than the will to survive. When offered a place to stay and a new job by her best friend’s cousin Adam, she simply cannot refuse…but Adam quickly becomes more than a friend. Scared to love again, and convinced that giving her heart to a man will only lead to pain, Erin remains steadfast, certain the only person she can trust is herself. But when her past comes knocking, threatening to tear her carefully constructed world apart, and the support of a person who believes in her more than she does herself will be the one thing that can keep her head above water. Will old habits prove too hard to break and leave Erin drowning in a sea of self-doubt, or can she let go of her fears and learn to love once more?

Adam Payne never thought he would find Love. He really wasn’t even looking for it. He fell hard and he fell fast for Erin McIntyre. Determined to show her that she is worthy of not only his love but worthy of herself. He will stop at nothing to make this woman his and when their love for one another surfaces into a love that Erin never thought would come her way her past comes back to haunt them all. Will Adam be able to Rescue Erin from her worst fear or will she pack up and run for the simple reason that the only thing she has ever known is her will to try and survive.

my review

4.5 Stars

I thought that Rescue Me was a sweet and romantic story about a woman getting a much deserved chance at finding herself and happiness. It is the second book in the series by Kathy Coopmans but it could be read as a standalone.

I both liked and disliked this book. I thought the plot was strong and that the characters were well developed. Adam and Erin were both likable and they had off the charts chemistry. I loved how Adam pushed Erin’s boundaries all the while leaving her feeling secure and protected. I connected with how once she felt safe, her character blossomed and found a new boldness in herself thanks to Adam.

Added to Adam and Erin’s romance is the ex-factor.  It heightens the drama and creates an intense storyline.  It pushes the character’s to their limits and ties the reader to the characters more.  You feel the fear and experience the terror.  Kathy Coopmans does a wonderful job writing her characters and their world, you can imagine it all.

Where I struggled with this book was the emotional flip-flop back-and-forth of Erin. It always happened so quickly and then she would be fine. I guess because I’ve never known the struggle that these characters have had to endure, so I cannot truly understand the daily emotional inner struggle.  However as a reader, I could not switch my emotions as quickly but others might not feel this way.

Overall, I think Rescue Me is a good book and I would definitely recommend it.  Even though it can be read alone, I do suggest reading Shelter Me first as you are introduced to Adam and Erin there as well as the other characters mentioned in the book.
